CHILD SPONSORSHIP FOR EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION-A CASE STUDY
Abstract
An equitable and inclusive education system is a decisive factor in the development of a
country. As humanitarian aid mobilizes funds internationally, child sponsorship ensures education
for marginalized children. This paper describes the case study of a child sponsorship program run
by Sacred Heart Congregation of catholic nuns in Kerala. It details the initiative of this family-based
child sponsorship that envisions the social mobility of low-income families through acquiring
education and pursuing employment. Moreover, it sheds light on new avenues for social work
research and interventions to assess and refine the effectiveness of child sponsorship programs.
