ENSURING EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE EDUCATION IN KERALA: A CASE STUDY OF GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE IN KERALA

Serin Xavier, Dr. Kiran Thampi

Abstract
Inclusive education is a successful practice that gives all juveniles an equal chance to explore school, study, and increase their talents.Article 47 of the Indian constitution requires that children aged 6 to 14 get free and compulsory education. National Education Policy 2020 envisions equitable and inclusive education in line with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). The General Education Department in Kerala stages many interventions under different schemes for an equitable distribution of quality education in state. Integrated Education for Disabled Children programme founded in 1947, and the national policy of education endorsed inclusive education in 1986. CRAFT is a 3-day camp for students in the government schools of Kerala, organized by SamagraShikshaKeralam and the General Education Department during the summer holidays. The camp intended to provide vocational training under equitable and inclusive education emphasized in the National Education Policy 2020. In line with the abstraction of inclusive education, the participation was also open to children with special needs. With the motto Do and Learn, this program imparted a set of skills to the participants. However, the students need continuous training to develop their careers in their area of interest.
